Paula Barnes is a N. C. native who grew up in Wilmington and moved to Raleigh in 1978 from Atlanta, Georgia where she worked for a CPA firm doing various accounting and office duties.
After moving to Raleigh, Ms. Barnes took a position as the Credit/Collections and Accounts Receivable Manager for a large heavy duty truck dealership.
Ms. Barnes started working for the State of North Carolina in 1983, where she accepted a position in the Payroll and Benefits Dept. at N. C. State University.
In 1986 she was given the promotional opportunity to become their Workers’ Compensation/Disability Coordinator. Paula Barnes was responsible for all aspects of workers’ compensation claims management. She developed and conducted worker’s compensation workshops for Campus and was a workers’ compensation trainer for the Universities’ Supervisors Program Series. She was given additional duties in 1997, as a Benefits Counselor, administering all aspects of University and State Government benefit programs.
Ms. Barnes has been with the North Carolina Industrial Commission since January 2000 as Claims Supervisor/Chief Claims Examiner, responsible for the approval process of compensation agreements, disfigurement evaluations, computing lump sum death awards and average weekly wage computations.
She has been a member of the North Carolina State Government Workers’ Compensation Advisory Committee and served on the search committee for a State Workers’ Compensation Third Party Administrator. Paula Barnes has also served on a team to resolve disputed workers’ compensation issues between State Government Agencies and the Third Party Administrator. She served on a panel addressing Adjuster issues at our January 2000 Conference.
Margaret G. Dunn, RN, CIRS, CCM
Margaret Dunn, RN, CIRS, CCM, received her education at Wilmington College/JWM Hospital, NC State University, UNC at Chapel Hill and Duke. She spent two years as a Lieutenant in the Air Force Nurse Corp., and six years at Duke Medical Center where she was Head Nurse of their original Surgical Cardiovascular Ward. She has been with the North Carolina Industrial Commission since 1974, and has been the Supervisor of the Nurses Section since June, 1994.
Tracey Harrell Weaver became Executive Secretary of the N.C. Industrial Commission in August, 1995. She joined the Commission in 1993 and was a Special Deputy Commissioner for the informal hearing procedure prior to her appointment as Executive Secretary.
Ms. Weaver obtained her B.A. degree in English and in Speech Communications from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1990. She earned her J.D. degree from the UNC School of Law in 1993. Ms. Weaver was a member of the Holderness Moot Court and served as president of the Graduate and Professional Student Federation while a law student.
She is a member of the Workers’ Compensation Section and Young Lawyers Division of the North Carolina Bar Association. She also serves on the State Government Workers’ Compensation Advisory Committee.
