Keith T. Bateman
Alliance of American Insurers

Keith Bateman is Vice President Policy Development-Workers Compensation/Health of the Alliance of American Insurers, a national trade association representing over 270 property/casualty insurers. Alliance members write approximately one-fifth of the private carrier workers compensation premium written in the United States.
Among his responsibilities are issues identification, policy development, and policy implementation in the areas of workers compensation, 24-hour coverage, managed care, and health care policy. He represents the Alliance on the Workers Compensation Research Institute Board and serves as chair of its Research Committee.
He co-authored Alliance publications on 24-hour coverage, health care reform, and a comparative study of tort systems, and has published a number of articles about 24-hour coverage. He has testified before legislative committees and made numerous presentations about the topic. Mr. Bateman is a graduate of the University of Michigan Law School and is a member of the Michigan and American Bar Associations. Prior to joining the Alliance, he served as counsel to the Labor Committee of the Michigan House of Representatives and subsequently served in the Michigan Workers Compensation Appeal Board.
Alan Miles

Alan Miles was born August 26, 1960, in Buncombe County. He spent his entire childhood there, attending public schools and graduating from T.C. Roberson High School in Skyland in 1978. From there, he entered Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, undertaking a joint major of political science and history.
While in Atlanta, Mr. Miles worked for that citys government, first in the Bureau of Planning, then as a member of the staff of the Atlanta City Council. While there, his accomplishments included developing the evidence used by the city to successfully challenge the 1980 U.S. Census count of the citys population and to undertake a major rewrite of the citys housing code to encourage rehabilitation of the citys existing housing.
After graduating with his bachelors degree with high honors from Emory in 1982, Alan Miles entered the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law. Upon his graduation and receipt of his license to practice law in 1985, he became a law clerk to N.C. Supreme Court Justice Sarah Elizabeth Parker, at the time a Judge on the N.C. Court of Appeals. Following his clerkship, he joined the law firm of Bailey & Dixon, L.L.P., in Raleigh in 1987 where he has practiced since.
Concentrating his practice in governmental relations, civil litigation, and workers compensation, Mr. Miles became a partner in his firm in 1992. He currently serves on the N.C. Robin E. Hudson is a Georgia native, but has lived in North Carolina since her early teens. She graduated from Yale University in 1973, and the University of North Carolina School of Law in 1976; she was admitted to the North Carolina Bar in 1976. She has been practicing law in Raleigh and Durham since 1977.
Except for three years as assistant appellate defender in the early 1980s, her practice has consisted largely of handling plaintiffs in workers compensation, and tort litigation, with particular emphasis on occupational diseases and products liability. From 1977 to 1984, she handled hundreds of cotton dust exposure cases, many of which made their way through the N.C. Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court. More recently, she has handled large numbers of asbestos, silica, chemical exposure, and repetitive motion cases, as well as numerous workers compensation injury cases. She has handled well over 100 appeals of various types, in State and Federal Courts.
Since 1994, she has been certified (first by the Administrative Office of the Courts, and then by the N.C. Dispute Resolution Commission) to mediate cases from Superior Court. Also since 1994, she has been certified to mediate workers compensation cases pending in the N.C. Industrial Commission. She has mediated dozens of cases from the courts and the Industrial Commission.
Robin Hudson was a member of the steering committee that founded the N.C. Association of Women Attorneys in 1978. She is a long-time member of the Bar Association and Academy of Trial Lawyers. She has been a member of the Board of Governors of the North Carolina Academy of Trial Lawyers since 1992, and chaired the Workers Compensation Section of that organization for five years. She was appointed by Chairman J. Howard Bunn, Jr. to the N.C. Industrial Commission Advisory Council in 1994. In that same year, she was also appointed by Governor James B. 1993-Present: Sole Proprietor of four-lawyer firm with offices in Raleigh, and clients statewide. John received a Bachelors Degree from the University of Nebraska and a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Ohio University.
